theater + city library

Design development project of the revised competition winning proposal for the new Theater and City Library building in Tetovo.

Three bodies with different functions; a theater, a library and a multifunctional space for cultural, educational and commercial activities had to be integrated into one corpus. The need for a congested and hybridized program distribution led to stratification and the intertwining of the given functions and utmost exploitation of the site. By carving the building in horizontal and vertical plans, new spaces are revealed that bring together the various functions of this composite structure with a diversified suite of programs. The cut of the open amphitheater at the entrance transitions into a new attribute, emphasizing the open nature of the seized part. The twisted façade gives an apparent relevance to the scene curtain and an ever-opening book.
